The Ballroom Dance Teachers Academy is state licensed by the New Mexico Department of Higher Education.  As the most comprehensive licensed ballroom dance teacher education program in the World, you be sure you are receiving the very best education.

With the Ballroom Dance Teacher’s Academy at Sol Ballroom, you CAN begin a career you will love for the rest of your life!  We have four regular intensive courses available. Choose Rhythm, Smooth or both.

The Junior Associate courses cover the first half of the bronze syllabus. The Full Associate cover the second half of the bronze syllabus.  Take one or all of them.  In less than 6 months you could be highly trained, certified and ready to teach anyone – anywhere!

RHYTHM: Rumba, Cha Cha, East Coast Swing, Mambo, Bolero

SMOOTH: Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz

These Courses are for anyone with the desire to make teaching dance their career and/or for those who want to improve their dancing by learning both roles in a structured environment.

What Is the Program

Our comprehensive intensive Teacher Training program, based on the Internationally-recognized DVIDA® American-Style Syllabus, incorporates the 3 essential aspects of teaching dance.

1. Syllabus Training

• Comprehensive knowledge of all figure patterns as both Leader and Follower
• A precise, detailed and universal “language” for teaching
• Musicality, history and technical aspects for each dance
• Posture, frame, footwork, movement, timing
• Regular homework assignments and in-class presentations
• Development of teaching and presentation skills
• Exams (dance & theory) and written tests
• Optional Professional DVIDA® Certification (additional fees apply)

2. Body Mechanics (Move Like a Champion)

• Create exceptional dance posture and poise
• Learn specific, anatomical actions to produce beautiful dancing
• Acquire the knowledge and tools to help your students improve their posture, arm styling, foot action, balance and expression  

3. Interpersonal Skills (Salesfree Sales)

• Customer-focused, principle-based and high-integrity system
• Learn how to create long-term relationships so that “sales” happen naturally
• Tools to create constant success in all relationships

These Courses cover all of the material necessary for taking a Professional DVIDA Certification exam. Completion of ProDVIDA certification of Associate Smooth and/or Rhythm qualifies you to be listed as a “Certified Dance Teacher” with NDCA (National Dance Council of America). 

For those who are interested, Professional Certification will be available during or after the Course.  Private lessons with Diane Jarmolow will be available to those who need help with the coursework, want to explore other dances and/or prepare for certification. These lessons can also be shared with another trainee for additional savings.

Schedule and Location

We have designed this program at the perfect pace so there is sufficient time to absorb and learn the material. There will be plenty of individual attention, sufficient practice time and personal time.

Monday through Friday – Times TBA

Afternoons, evenings and weekends are reserved for studying, practicing, time off, and taking advantage of the studio classes. Classes are held at Sol Ballroom in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Pre-Requisites

This Course is focused on Teacher Training, wherein you will learn both the Leader and Follower roles in great detail as if preparing for Professional Certification. Dance experience is required for the intensive courses but not for the ongoing courses.  The courses will be far more effective if you have experience with all the figures in at least one role.

Upon registration we will provide a variety of study assignments that we ask you to complete prior to the first day of class.

Tuition and Payment Plans

• $7,980 for 2 Full Associate Courses – 288 hours – 16 weeks (Rhythm and Smooth)
• $3,990 for 2 Junior Associate Courses – 144 hours – 8 weeks (Rhythm and Smooth)
• $3,990 for 1 Full Associate Course – 144 hours – 8 weeks (Rhythm or Smooth)
• $1,995 for 1 Junior Associate or Full Associate Completion Course – 72 hours – 4 weeks each (Rhythm or Smooth)
• EARLY BIRD DISCOUNTS MAY BE AVAILABLE PRIOR TO THE START OF EACH COURSE.

Registration

As a state licensed program, the Ballroom Dance Teachers Academy at Sol Ballroom adheres to state requirements regarding registration, enrollment and cancellations.  For a detailed description of these procedures, email us for a complete copy of our Course Catalog, Admission Application and Enrollment form.

STEP ONE: In order to register for any of our courses, you must first complete an Admission Application and submit a $50 processing fee.

STEP TWO: Once admitted, you may choose your course and submit an Enrollment Application.  There is a non-refundable $100 fee associated with this application, however, this fee will be applied toward your course enrollment.

STEP THREE: Enjoy the process of learning and get ready to begin the career you have always dreamed of having.

Withdrawl from Classes:

Your satisfaction is our primary concern.  If for any reason, you are not able to attend your course we support you in withdrawing from said course.  Your paid tuition may be used towards future courses or a refund may be received.  Please be aware that courses are dependent on minimum registration numbers.

The Ballroom Dance Teachers Academy at Sol Ballroom follows the standard prescribed by the New Mexico State Department of Higher Education, and reads as follows:

If tuition and fees are collected in advance of the start date of classes and the student does not begin classes or withdraws on the first day of classes, or if the class is cancelled, we will refund 100% of the tuition. The refund will be issued within 30 days of the class start date. If a student withdraws after the first day of class, the refund will be issued within 30 days of the student’s withdrawal date. The following is the refund policy for students who withdraw after classes commence:
• During the first 10% of the period of financial obligation, 90% of the tuition will be refunded to the student;
• After the first 10% of the period of financial obligation and until the end of the first 25% of the period of obligation, 50% of the tuition will be refunded to the student;
• After the first 25% of the period of financial obligation and until the end of the first 50% of the period of obligation, 25% of the tuition will be refunded to the student;
• After the first 50% of the period of financial obligation, none of the tuition will be refunded to the student.

* Course is subject to cancellation if a minimum of four participants is not met.  Maximum class size is ten.  Sign up early to assure your participation and the participation of others.

Housing and Transportation

There are numerous inexpensive housing options through Airbnb – search within the 88001, 88011, 88005, 88007, 88003, and 88046 zip codes. Each area has unique and positive features and all are relatively close to the studio. Reputable extended stay hotels also exist for as low as about $30/night. Public transportation is relatively accessible, and Uber is inexpensive. You may also find a monthly car rental easily affordable – especially if you rent in El Paso, TX (non-airport). As participants register, we can connect those who are interested in sharing housing and/or transportation.
